The last conjunction of the moon and Jupiter occurred on Jand the next one will occur on September 28, 2014. If Jupiter is further from the sun than the moon is to the earth, then the conjunction will occur less frequently. For example, if Jupiter is closer to the sun than the moon is to the earth, then the conjunction will occur more frequently. ![]() However, the two planets can line up more frequently or less frequently depending on their position in their respective orbits. ![]() This is because the moon orbits the earth much faster than Jupiter orbits the sun. The conjunction of the moon and Jupiter occurs every 13.3 days on average. ![]()
